Prof. Pingliang Zeng

Biography: Prof. Pingliang Zeng received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China, in 1984. He then went to the University of Strathclyde, U.K., in 1985 and received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde in 1990. He also obtained a management degree from the University of Surrey, U.K., in 1999.

Prof. Zeng is currently a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at Hangzhou Dianzi University, and serves as the Director of the Regional Energy Internet Technology Zhejiang Provincial Engineering Laboratory (Center). He is a National Distinguished Expert (selected in the 6th batch of the National High-Level Overseas Talents Introduction Program), a Zhejiang Provincial Distinguished Expert, an IET Fellow, a Senior Member of IEEE, and a Chartered Engineer (CEng) in the U.K.. He served as the Convenor of IEC TC122 WG1 (2015-2017) and is an expert member of IEC TC122 WG1, IEC TC8 JWG10, JWG12, SC8B, and Cigre.

Prior to returning to China in 2012, Prof. Zeng worked for over 20 years at the National Grid Company in the U.K., holding positions including Senior Engineer, Senior Commercial Analyst, Manager of System Operation Incentive and Strategy Department, and Manager of Transmission Network Design Department. After his return, he served as the Chief Expert of Power System Analysis and Planning at the China Electric Power Research Institute before joining Hangzhou Dianzi University in 2017.

His research interests include power system analysis and planning, renewable energy integration, electric vehicle integration, power system reliability, large-scale energy storage applications, distributed generation, demand response, integrated energy systems, and electricity markets. He has led and participated in over 10 national and corporate research projects, including 4 national-level projects. He has published more than 100 papers (including over 70 SCI/EI papers), authored 2 monographs, and holds multiple invention patents.

Prof. Zeng has received numerous prestigious honors, including the IEC 1906 Award for international standard contribution, the Seventh China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese Innovation Contribution Award, multiple provincial and ministerial-level Science and Technology Progress Awards, and the China Enterprise Federation Electric Power Innovation Award (First and Second Class). He has led and participated in the development of 5 IEC international standards.

Prof. Guo Chen

Biography: Dr Guo Chen received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia, in 2010. He is currently a Scientia Associate Professor with the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications at the University of New South Wales (QS World Top 20), Sydney, Australia. Prior to joining UNSW, he held academic positions at the Australian National University, the University of Sydney, and the University of Newcastle.

Dr. Chen has published more than 100 high-quality journal papers, with over half appearing in IEEE Transactions. He received the 2022 Best Paper Award from IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid and several Best Paper Awards at leading international conferences. His research interests include sustainable energy systems, artificial intelligence, optimization and control, and their applications in smart grids.

Dr. Chen serves as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid, IEEE Power Engineering Letters, IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, and IET Energy Conversion and Economics.
